When you want to lose weight, you naturally think about rebalancing your diet and doing more sport.
Yet the most important is overlooked. Often times, this important point is overlooked that prevents you from losing weight (and especially fat).
To regain your best form, it is essential to look at your intestine and more particularly the intestinal flora. The gut is the second brain in the body, it is the gut that will play the biggest role in your balance and therefore in your weight loss.
What is intestinal flora (definition)?
The intestinal flora is the collection of microorganisms found in the digestive tract. So these are all bacteria in the gut and stomach.
The role of the intestinal flora is incredible: these millions of bacteria protect our digestive system, in order to preserve our balance. This protective barrier is extremely fragile, which tends to worsen with modern unnatural diets.
The destruction of the intestinal flora can be prevented by using probiotics which strengthen the intestinal flora.
What are probiotics?
The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) formally defined the role of probiotics in 2001. Here is the definition of probiotics: ” living microorganisms which, when ingested in sufficient quantity, exert positive effects on health, beyond the traditional nutritional effects ”
There are several coming out of probiotics. You can find them in the diet (we will see the foods below) or supplement you with a one-month course.
How to choose your probiotics?
The probiotic bacteria studied that show the most promising effects on weight loss and reduction of fat mass to date are Lactobacillus Gasseri or L. Gasseri.
A study review has shown a reduction in obesity, abdominal fat and body weight after consumption of Probiotic Lactobacillus Gasseri.
What is Lactobacillus gasseri? How does it work?
Lactobacillus gasseri is a lactic acid bacteria found naturally in breast milk. Naturally resistant to gastric acidity and bile salts, it is part of the intestinal flora of a healthy person. During aging, as a result of poor eating habits or because of prolonged antibiotic treatment, the number of Lactobacillus gasseri bacteria in the digestive tract drops, while the number of pathogens increases. To meet their food needs, these germs stimulate the secretion of hunger hormones. As a result, appetite increases, as does caloric intake, and then, inevitably, body weight.
Lactobacillus gasseri takes the place of pathogens conducive to weight gain. By modifying the microbial population, it decreases the body’s ability to assimilate superfluous calories. Ingestion of Lactobacillus gasseri has been clinically shown to reduce abdominal fat (-8.5%), waist circumference (-1.8%) and total body weight (-1.4%). This bacteria also helps to thicken the mucous barrier to prevent harmful substances from entering the bloodstream. It prevents the onset of inflammation that is conducive to obesity.
What are the other benefits of Lactobacillus gasseri?
Lactobacillus gasseri secretes lactic acid, which acidifies the colon and has a bacteriostatic effect. It accelerates intestinal transit, effectively reducing bloating.
Lactobacillus gasseri soothes the pains that accompany heavy or irregular periods. It dramatically improves the quality of life for many women.
Lactobacillus gasseri strengthens the body’s natural defenses, helping to deal with the little ailments of winter. It is also useful in the treatment of gastric ulcers.
Probiotics for weight loss
Can you lose weight with probiotics? As you know, to lose weight, build muscle and melt away belly fat: there is no quick fix. A rebalancing of food as well as an increase in physical activity are necessary to get back in shape.
Nevertheless, some efforts can be wasted when the intestinal flora is destroyed, unbalanced or in poor health.
This is where probiotics come in. They rebalance the intestinal flora and their benefits are numerous.
The effects of probiotics on the body
The benefits of probotics are numerous, here is a selection of their best effects:
- Protection of the balance of the intestinal flora
- Reduction of digestive disorders and diarrhea
- Reduction of adipose fat and aid in weight loss
You can find probiotics in food supplements, but they are also present in food.
Probiotics in food
Probiotics are present in the diet although they are much less numerous than when supplemented.
3 amazing foods that are rich in natural probiotics
This is the best known and easiest food rich in probiotics to make, because you can make it yourself at home from starter cultures. However, these are different probiotics than Lactobacillus Gasseri.
This is definitely the food rich in natural probiotics that I prefer. Komboucha is a living drink since it contains living bacteria. It is a soft drink that you will find in organic stores. I recommend you!
Yes, amazing as it sounds the pickle contains probiotics and what’s more, it’s rich in vitamin K! Choose organic and homemade pickles preferably. In fact, the more industrial the pickles, the less they will be rich in probiotics. Also make sure they are stored in a glass jar in their vinegar water.
Of course, I could also have told you about many other foods like sauerkraut (to be eaten without cold cuts for the pure benefits of probiotics) or kefir.
How to choose Lactobacillus Gasseri as a food supplement: opinion
You can opt for taking probiotics in addition, especially if you prefer L.Gasseri.
Be careful though to make the right choice.
To be effective, the intake of probiotics in supplements should not be less than 1 billion. What’s more, most probiotic capsules are useless because they are destroyed by acidity in the stomach.
So be careful to choose your probiotics, so as not to throw your money out the window.
For my part, I advise you to choose: capsules of at least 3 billion bacteria, with gastro-resistant capsules, preferably lactose-free and sugar-free.
Lactobacillus Gasseri as a food supplement: purchase
Lactobacillus Gasseri from Probiotic Life Nutrilife seems to meet all the criteria:
- 6 billion L. gasseri per capsule
- Gastro resistant capsules
- Lactose free (which is rare)
The only downside is the presence of beet as a natural sugar, but at least we avoid artificial sweeteners.
Before buying probiotics Lactobacillus Gasseri several conditions must be met, so that they have a beneficial effect on health:
- They must be alive
- The probiotic strains must be resistant to gastric acidity
- The cures must be long enough (minimum 10 days)
- Of course, the demonstration of the benefit must have been proven (which is the case for L. Gasseri)
To summarize: in order to be effective on the intestinal flora, probiotics must arrive alive in the colon and in sufficient numbers (hence the choice of capsules greater than 3 billion bacteria) .
To be fully effective, the cures should last 8 to 12 weeks, this is the time necessary for the renewal of the intestinal flora.
Even more importantly, the capsules should not be broken down as a result of their passage through the stomach. That’s why I recommend capsules that are able to resist gastric acidity.
